The Workshop Introduction and Applications of X-ray Imaging Physics in the Materials and Biological Fields will address the Basic physics of X-ray imaging, focusing on Computed Tomography (CT) and Microcomputed Tomography (microCT) image processing and analysis. The workshop will also show some examples of interdisciplinary applications of X-ray Imaging Physics in the Materials and Biological Fields.

The workshop is aimed at higher education and postgraduate students and establishes an international institutional partnership. Furthermore, the workshop is conceived and executed by researchers who are members of the Women in Nuclear Network (WiN).

Professor Inaya Lima is a Full Professor at the Coppe's Nuclear Engineering Department of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She has a Bachelor of Physics (UFF) with a Master and Doctorate in Nuclear Engineering/Applied Nuclear Physics (COPPE/UFRJ), Post-Doctorate in Materials Science and Technology (UERJ/IPRJ). Professor Lima was a PROMETRO researcher at Inmetro (Division of Materials Metrology) and a Visiting and Adjunct Professor at UERJ / IPRJ in the Department of Mechanics and Energy, as well as in the Postgraduate Program in Materials Science and Technology. Since 2011 she has been a professor of Nuclear Engineering at UFRJ / POLI / COPPE. Professor Lima currently collaborates with several institutions, such as the Faculty of Medicine of the HU at UFRJ (1st Clinical Microtomography Equipment in the extremities of the country, through a partnership with INTO), the Institute of Marine Microbiology at UFF, the LNLS, the IEN/ CNEN, etc. In addition, Professor Lima belongs to LAASC-Laboratory of Environmental Analysis and Computer Simulation (PEN / DNC / UFRJ) and is the Supervisor of Radiological Protection. Recently, Professor Lima has been the Titular Representative of the UFRJ Nuclear Engineering Program/COPPE and is a member of the Postgraduate and Research Committee/COPPE. Professor Lima is a member of the Brazilian Society of Physics (SBF) and other bodies and groups associated with medical physics, radiology and radiation protection, engineering, and women's rights. Professor Lima is an active member of the Women's Support Group (GAM), established at COPPE, Win (Women in Nuclear Global - International and Brazilian), and OWSD- Brazil Chapter. Professor Lima has extensive experience in medical physics/radioprotection and the application of radioisotopes in Medicine, Biology, Oil, and Gas, Dentistry, Industrial Materials, and the Environment.

Simone Pennafirme is a PostDoc Researcher at the Nuclear Engineering Program at UFRJ / POLI / COPPE, supervised by Professor Lima. Dr. Pennafirme has a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the Graduate Program at UFF. Part of Dr. Pennafirme’s thesis was carried out at the Nuclear Engineering Program/COPPE-UFRJ and the National Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS-CNPEM). Dr. Pennafirme is interested in Marine Microbiology Ecology, working mainly on the interaction between Macro- and Microorganisms, focusing on bacterial biofilm and the use of Biomarkers and Nuclear Techniques (µCT, XRF, and SRµXRF) as investigation tools.
