Grand Touring Team
The Virginia Tech Grand Touring team is a competition senior design team with the goal to modify a late model production vehicle to compete in a 12-hour endurance race hosted by the ChampCar Endurance Series.
What is VTGT?
The Virginia Tech Grand Touring team is a competition senior design team ran through the Mechanical Engineering Department of Virginia Tech with the goal of modifying a late model production vehicle to compete in an endurance race hosted by the ChampCar Endurance Series. There are many subprojects that the team typically investigates and applies engineering principles to, such as the braking system, suspension, and aerodynamics. The 2021-2022 school year will be the first year of racing the team’s 2004 Ford Focus SVT. The ChampCar World Series hosts endurance races that range from 7-38 hours, and VTGT will be competing in the 12-hour race at Virginia International Raceway on March 5th, 2022.
Who can join?
Virginia Tech Grand Touring consists of seniors in Mechanical Engineering and accepts undergraduate volunteers of any discipline.
