A pair of boxing robots created by Kollmorgen have found a new home in the lobby of Goodwin Hall.

The robots are a giant-size version of the classic, “Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots” game, produced to showcase the company’s motion technology. Since 2013, the red and blue brawlers have traveled the country with the company’s staff, engaging audiences at trade shows and conferences.

The exhibit is a timely addition to the mechanical engineering department, coming with the advent of a new robotics major. Students who are interested in studying topics such as robotic engineering, automation, and controls will find ready-made, hands-on learning in addition to an entertaining challenge.

“Kollmorgen is honored to be able to provide this demo to Virginia Tech,” said Mike Crowe ‘91, Kollmorgen Vice President Americas Sales & Customer Service. “We strongly support the Virginia Tech engineering educational efforts and encourage new motion and robotic technology advancement.”
