As one of the world's leading energy producers, Saudi Arabia is taking bold steps toward a sustainable future by investing in carbon capture technologies. This seminar will explore the latest carbon capture technology development advancements at KAUST. It will cover higher TRL approaches of cryogenic carbon capture systems, integration with existing power plants, and the push toward commercialization. By leveraging these technologies, the aim is to address CO2 emissions and contribute to global net-zero targets by 2060. The discussion will also highlight key projects that showcase the Kingdom's commitment to pioneering carbon capture solutions and establishing itself as a leader in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Sreedharan (Sai) is a research scientist at KAUST, actively working on pioneering carbon capture programs under the direction of Prof. William (Bill) Roberts. Sai plays a key role in the development and scale-up of innovative carbon capture technologies, contributing to the Kingdom's efforts in advancing sustainable energy solutions.Prior to joining KAUST, Sai spent over 12 years at GE, where he led technology development across the Global Research Center, GE Aerospace, GE Power, and GE Renewable Energy. A proud Hokie, he earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech. His work in carbon capture has received international recognition, with his team earning the Emirates Energy Award, the Asian Power Award, and the Gold Medal with Honors at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions.
