Kun Chen is the Chief Nuclear Officer in ThorCon. Kun has been focusing on developing advanced nuclear reactors to provide reliable and affordable energy to the world by overcoming technical and regulatory barriers. Before joining ThorCon, Kun was the Vice President – Licensing and Regulatory Affairs in Moltex Energy Canada. He led Moltex’s pre-licensing activities, including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Vendor Design Review, in Canada. Before joining Moltex, Kun was the Director of the Reactor System Engineering Division in Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he led the licensing of China's Thorium Molten Salt Reactors. He was a Chinese Academy of Sciences distinguished professor and an adjunct professor of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Before joining Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kun was a nuclear engineer in Argonne National Laboratory working on nuclear criticality safety, radiation shielding and radioactive material transportation safety review supporting US DOE and NRC. Kun holds a PhD in nuclear physics from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a B.S. in physics from University of Science and Technology of China.
