Naimat Bari, a postdoctoral researcher in Bahareh Behkam's MicroN BASE Lab, has been awarded a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Virginia Tech Office of Research and Innovation. The fellowship prepares postdocs from various fields and disciplines for the next step in their careers, providing a two-year appointment with nationally competitive salaries and benefits in addition to mentoring and professional development support.

This is Bari's second fellowship since coming to Virginia Tech, having also received a Fralin Commercialization Fellowship in 2023.

Bari completed his PhD in 2020 at the Chemical Biology Unit of the Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Mohali, Punjab, India. His doctoral work focused on the biophysical and nanobiotechnological aspect of a bacterial organelle referred to as Bacterial Microcompartment. As a postdoctoral researcher in the MicroN BASE Lab, he has joined Behkam's work in the development of nanoscale antibacterial surfaces.
