Responsibilities

Shelia provides financial and administrative support for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.  Responsibilities include assisting faculty with making travel arrangements and processing reimbursements, ordering supplies and equipment, and providing general administrative assistance to assigned faculty, instructors, and graduate students.  Shelia also provides financial assistance across the department assisting faculty and staff with updating financial and salary worksheets and assists with department reconciliations and resolves outstanding encumbrance issues involving accounts payable and travel.

 

Background

Shelia started working for the Department of Mechanical Engineering in June of 2024 to serve the role of Senior Fiscal and Program Technician. Certified in Fiscal Support and Fiscal Management, she has served Virginia Tech for 30+ years working in both fiscal and human resources administrative roles.  In 2022, Shelia was recognized for the President’s Award for Excellence as a Nominee and received a certificate of recognition for her service in the College of Engineering.  She was also the recipient of BEAM’s 2022 Department Head’s Leader in Service Award for her positive interaction and service with faculty/staff and students in her administrative role.  Shelia has served in College Association of Staff in Engineering (CASE) as a representative 2019-2022.
