Mechanical Engineering Hord Doctoral Scholars

The Robert E. Hord, Jr., fund has given the Department of Mechanical Engineering an opportunity for supporting graduate scholars who excel in research. Since its establishment in 2011, the endowment has carried on the legacy of excellence handed down by a World War II veteran and 1949 graduate.

Today, the endowment supports a cohort of doctoral students who have distinguished themselves as standouts in the field of research. Offering full support for four years, Hord Doctoral Scholars start their journey in the lab and finish it in front of their defense committee. Recipients are attached to a topic from one of the five research thrust areas identified by the department.

To qualify, candidates should show publication history and discuss their aspirations for continuing research through their education. Applicants will be reviewed and selected by a committee of faculty in the thrust area of interest for placement with a faculty advisor.
