Amrinder Nain is co-author of a paper published in Communications Biology that explores new horizons in cell mechanics, finding a new class of cell protrusions called “3D-PLP” that can occur anywhere along the cell body. Typically protrusions are restricted to front of the cell, but this research shows that lateral protrusions not only exist, but they are capable of exerting significant forces that can deflect neighboring fibers. Deflection of neighboring fibers is linked with desmoplastic expansion in cancer.

Study was a collaboration with the Fox Chase Cancer Center and the University of North Carolina.
