Katrin Elbert

Katrin Kroemer Elbert has worked in research and development as a mechanical engineer for over three decades in the medical device industry, focusing on implants and medical devices for surgical, therapeutic and diagnostic applications with Stryker-Howmedica orthopedics and Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon. She holds an undergraduate engineering degree from ESM at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and master’s and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from Cornell University. She has additional certification in engineering management from Stevens Institute of Technology as well as other project management and leadership trainings and certifications. She brings wide-ranging theoretical and practical experience in biomedical engineering and the design and development of useful medical devices and systems. In addition, she collaborates across supply chain, regulatory, quality, and other functions to support devices that meet the needs of users and patients across the globe. She holds intellectual property and has numerous publications in the surgical and orthopedic literature, and has collaborated with her father, Karl H. Eberhard Kroemer (Dr.-Ing. and Professor Emeritus at Virginia Tech), on ergonomics textbooks.
